Did I get your attention with this title? Good. Now we can talk. ūüôā Well, all comic book fans have a special relationship with Marvel and DC. I certainly am more inclined to be a Marvel guy because I read lots of Marvel comics growing up, and my first ever published work as a writer, Spider-Man Noir, was Marvel. That doesn’t mean I despise DC. Au contraire ! I love DC and I’d love to have a chance to play in their sandbox one day. But this isn’t the topic of the day.

Today, we’re going to talk about art.

One thing that struck me at conventions, is how a writer is usually overlooked. The audience has only eyes for artists. Most artists agree that it’s unfair. And many writers want to be artists also to prove that they’re multitalented and deserve as much spotlight as the artists at cons.

But the world is as it is and we can’t change that easily.

So, as the 2 people following me know already, I’ve started working on my art to get more exposure at cons.

Today, I was particularly inspired. Is it because I had a wisdom tooth removed yesterday? I don’t know. But I woke up with the urge to draw. Spidey Noir is always my first Marvel inspiration. Of course. And everyday, I’m grateful to Marko Djurdjevic to have come with such a beautiful character design. Even a dumb ass aspiring artist like me can draw it!

I’ve been experimenting with the Cintiq for a while now, and frankly, this piece is probably the one I’m the most proud of to date. It may look like shit from an experienced artist’s POV, but I’m really pleased with the result. On the version you see here, there’s still some work to do on the rifle gun. But it’s clearly not a piece I can be ashamed of.

I’ve decided it to offer it as a limited edition print at my next con.
